APABA Silicon Valley Expresses Deep Disappointment in US Supreme Court's Decision on Affirmative Action
/APABA Silicon Valley condemns the majority opinion of the US Supreme Court in Students for Fair Admissions v. Harvard and Students for Fair Admissions v. University of North Carolina, which held that considering race as a factor in the college admissions process is unconstitutional. The Supreme Court’s decision undermines decades of precedent and progress in promoting an equitable and inclusive society.
APABA Silicon Valley firmly believes that diversity is an essential component of a just and equitable system. We recognize that while not perfect, affirmative action is a necessary tool to address historical inequities and promote equal opportunities for underrepresented communities.
APABA Silicon Valley had previously signed on to an amicus brief submitted in this case, reflecting our position as to why diversity in colleges is critical to our society. College campuses are the training grounds for our future leaders and decision-makers. By disregarding the compelling interest in achieving diversity in leadership, the Supreme Court’s decision undercuts the progress we have made thus far toward a society that reflects the rich tapestry of backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives that define our nation.
APABA Silicon Valley remains steadfast in its commitment to advocating for policies and practices that promote justice and equality. We will continue to support efforts aimed at fostering inclusive environments where all individuals have a fair chance to thrive and succeed, and where all feel represented and included.
We encourage our community, partners, and allies to join us in addressing the challenges presented by this decision. Together, we can work towards a future where equal access to education and opportunities is a reality for all.
