| 7 | Civil Rights Committee Calls On APABA Members to Sign On-line Petition Against Limbaugh's Offensive Actions. Recently, Rush Limbaugh, during the course of his radio show with an audience of approximately 14 million listeners spread over 600 stations nationwide, described the Chinese language as sounding like "Ching, chong, ching, chong, chang, ching, chang...." (Listen to the audio here, here, or here). The APABA Board and Civil Rights Committee find Mr. Limbaugh's behavior offensive, not just to Chinese-Americans, but to all Asian-Americans. This public display of gross disrespect against Asian-Americans must not be tolerated and must be met with a public showing of solidarity against such bigotry and ignorance. Senator Leland Yee (State Senate, SF, San Mateo Counties) is demanding an apology and calling for companies and advertisers to pull their ads from the show. Senator Yee has created an on-line petition to accomplish this. The APABA Board and Civil Rights Committee urge you to do the following: (1) Take a stand by signing the on-line petition; and (2) Persuade your family, friends, and colleagues to do the same. |
